I saw a clip of
this on
The Colbert Report. It's from Fox News' John Gibson.
So, question: Is this thinly veiled racism? (Okay, not-so-thinly ... or veiled). Because when he says, "We need more babies," I don't think the "we" includes full-blooded Americans like me...

Of course it's racist. Tom Friedman mentions all this in the World is Flat. The poor nations want to fill the gap now. Right now. If they do, they'll stop having so many babies, maybe.
Gibson has since "clarified" his statements. And it's nice to know that, according to the transcript on Fox News' site, what he really meant was, "I said fine, but it was also a good idea if people other than Hispanics also got busy and had more babies. Those people would include both blacks and whites. I said you can't expect Hispanics to do all the work when it comes to supplying the country with babies."
Funny thing, in the actual clip, what he actually says in the middle of that quote is, "Those people would include both blacks and whites. I suppose Asians, too." And yet, no mention of Asians in the transcript.
Nice to know that I'm considered an afterthought ... and one not even worth making the cut for the transcript.

As with pretty much every comment I've seen relating to the debate not only on immigration, but also on gay marriage, I have come to the sad realization that racism is alive and well, and it is flourishing in my beloved country.
Like a fool, I had begun to believe that we were, ahem, breeding it out of each successive generation. I can only hope this, to quote Dick--a.k.a The Dick--Cheney, this is evidence of the last violent death throes of these racist bastards.
